About Me

Photographer Bethany Villero wearing a checkered dress and boots, takes a photograph inside a spacious, elegant room with high ceilings, large windows with pink curtains, and wooden floors.

Hey there! I’m Bethany

I’ve always been an observer.

On any given weekend, you’ll find me settled into my usual corner at my local coffeeshop. Probably listening to needtobreathe on my headphones. Most definitely with an oatmilk mocha in hand, laptop open, editing my latest session.

What you might not notice if you saw me in that corner is that I am simultaneously people-watching like my life depended on it.

I love seeing how people interact with each other, reading body language, sensing emotion. While I have my extroverted moments, I also find joy in just being in the presence of people, soaking in the conversation.

Sometimes people poke fun at me for being on the quieter side.

But being deeply in tune with those around me by simply observing is a skill that translates so beautifully to photography.

A young mother tucking stray hair behind her toddler’s ears. Sneaky kisses between a couple when they think I’m still cleaning my lens. An extra-long hug between a bride and her grandmother. The father of the bride quietly brushing away a tear during the ceremony.

I notice. And I’m ready with my camera.

How did you get started?

My dad let me borrow his Canon 30D as a teenager. I took pictures of every flower, tree, cat in the neighborhood. Eventually, I bought it from him. And eventually, people started paying me to photograph their events and families. I fell in love with people (yes, even as an introvert!) I am a marketer for a meteorological equipment company, but have continued to run my photography business on the side, and don’t plan to stop any time soon!

What’s your vibe? What are you up to when not taking photos?

I’m a pretty laid back kinda girl. I have a childlike fascination with nature - soaking in God’s creation (preferably somewhere with water) is what I enjoy the most. The past few years I’ve taken up vegetable and flower gardening and it’s a frustrating, beautiful, fulfilling thing that’s taught me a lot about life!
